Good Ship pals here to help you make your picture book

Toot toot! We are tooting the Good Ship fog horn to celebrate some of the amazing illustrators, agents and publishers who have contributed films to the Picture Book course.

Yasmeen Ismail

Hilariously unruly, award-winning illustrator and author, Yasmeen Ismail has illustrated over 15 books and has written 12 of them. We particularly love Time for Bed Fred and Would you Like a Banana?

We had a fun chat for the course: Yasmeen shows us her sketchbooks and rough drawings and tells us how she makes her illustrations using a mix of handmade and digital tools. We LOVE Yasmeen on the Good Ship!

Alison Green is a successful children’s editor and publisher (and occasional author) with her own imprint at Scholastic who, amongst other accolades, brought together Axel Scheffler and Julia Donaldson to create The Gruffalo and other classics.

Alison has been my editor (Helen here) for many years. We made lots of books together, including How to Hide a Lion. In the Picture book course Alison and I talk about how we work together, what publishers are looking for in an illustrator, how Alison finds their illustrators and what you need in your picture book portfolio.
