Good Ship Students at Bologna Children's Book Fair Day Four

Day four and we're sharing the work of one more Good Shipper who is exhibiting at The Bologna Children's Book Fair.

Naomi is a Find Your Creative Voice Alumni. We asked her about her Good Ship experience, here's what she said...

"I discovered The Good ship at just the right time. I’d planned to rebuild my illustration career after an unintentionally long break to have my three girls. But just as my littlest started school, Covid hit. Producing a new portfolio and sending out relentless promotional emails all felt too much with everyone at home 24/7. So I signed up to the “Find Your Creative Voice” course instead. And thank goodness I did! Doing something for me kept me sane amidst homeschooling, and reignited my love for illustration and drawing from life, which I’d lost since losing my Mum, and becoming a Mum myself. 

It was exciting! I was drawing all the time. I cared less about what all the other illustrators on Instagram were doing and I started to make new work that I liked, and I had a great time making it too. The following year I took part in the first round of the Picture Book course. Spurred on by that, and with plenty of encouragement from new Goodship friends, I applied for an MA in Children’s Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art,  I created this set of images during my first year of the MA. In 2025 I’ll be in Bologna with some of the books that I’ve produced on the course. I’ll always be grateful to Helen, Katie and Tania for helping me find my creative way again, they absolutely changed my life!"
