Good Ship Students at Bologna Children's Book Fair Day Two
Apr 09, 2024
We thought it was only right we celebrated our amaziiiing Good Ship Students who are exhibiting at the Bologna Children's Book Fair.
Today we're sharing the work of Charlotte Durrance, a Good Ship Find Your Creative Voice Alumni. We asked Charlotte about her work and she said...
"My submission for Bologna was from my silent book Lost which I made on my MA in Children's Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art. So much of this book was inspired by my sketchbook drawings from life and research I did on the tube. I walked around the station with a rabbit toy to think about proportion, point of view and scale. Sketchbooks are so important in my work and daily life and I can trace this sketchbook addiction back to 2021 when I did The Good Ship Illustration Find Your Creative Voice course.
Doing the Good Ship course was the beginning of my career in Illustration. I'd decided that 2021 was going to be the year that I started drawing again. I'd been painting a bit but hadn't studied art since GCSE and the Good Ship course felt like finally being at art school. Working my way through the modules and seeing how I could use sketchbooks to record life was hugely inspiring. I haven't stopped sketching since. I met so many other artists and it gave me the confidence to get a portfolio together for my MA - I'm now in my final year! Hooray for Good Ship and thank you for all the inspiration which started my love of sketchbooks and work in illustration."
