I started this course when I was feeling pretty overwhelmed and bogged down by everything I initially knew of visual storytelling. Not only has it demystified a lot of the process of creating a picture book, it also broadened my perspective to the industry and the different styles of illustration that are actually welcomed and appreciated. It really helped me piece together all the tools I already possess to illustrate characters that have real heart and warmth, rather than relying on technical mastery alone. The course has introduced me to so many wonderful picture book makers from around the world, and to resources like Bologna Children's Book Fair (totally unknown to me at the time), where I had my mind properly blown away. Most of all, this course has gotten me excited to write my own stories!
